🏏 Weekend Round-Up 🏏

Mixed fortunes for Heywood last weekend, but plenty of good performances across the club.

The 1st XI suffered a 45-run defeat at Greenfield. The hosts made 189, with 44 extras proving extremely costly for Heywood. Greg Butterworth produced a superb individual performance, taking 6-49 before top scoring with 47. He was well supported by Sean Burrill (40) in a 73-run fifth-wicket partnership, but Heywood were eventually dismissed for 145.

Much better news for the 2nd XI, who recorded an excellent 5-wicket victory over Bradshaw. Ollie Rawlinson and Henry McDermott both claimed 3 wickets as Bradshaw were dismissed for 172. In reply, youngster Chris Fern continued to impress with a top score of 48, supported by Andy Dawson (35) and Benji McCulloch (34) as Heywood got home with almost nine overs to spare.

The 3rd XI were beaten by a strong Monton side. Heywood posted 182-9, with Chris Fern (60) again impressing alongside James Eckersley (35) and Mohsin Hussain (32). Monton chased the target for the loss of just two wickets.

🔥 Heywood Phoenix continued their excellent progress with another victory, beating Walshaw by 59 runs! Liz Seddon claimed 3 wickets and Ellie Clarkson 2, while Asra Khan (14) and skipper Jen Baker (13) led the way with the bat.

And some fantastic news for the future of the club — both our Under 15s and Under 18s have reached their respective cup finals, and BOTH will be played at Crimble this Sunday, 23rd August!

Two cup finals, one afternoon and a chance to support some of Heywood’s young up-and-coming talent. It would be brilliant to see a big Crimble crowd there cheering them on! 💚👏
