A disappointing weekend for the 1st and 2nd XIs, with both sides suffering defeats on Saturday and Sunday.
The 1st XI faced Westhoughton on both days. Saturday's league encounter ended in a 43-run defeat, while Sunday's cup tie saw Westhoughton progress with a 7-wicket victory.
The 2nd XI were beaten by 3 wickets by Woodbank on Saturday before suffering more cup heartbreak on Sunday. In a closely fought contest against Prestwich, Heywood fell to a narrow 2-wicket defeat, with the winning runs coming from the penultimate delivery of the match.
There was better news for the 3rd XI, who recorded an excellent 4-wicket victory over Ashton on Sunday. Chasing their target, the winning runs came in the final over thanks to an unbeaten partnership between Steve Hoole (32)* and youngster Henry McDermott, who smashed 30 from just 18 balls* on his Third XI debut to see Heywood home in style π
The Heywood Phoenix were also involved in a thriller, unfortunately ending on the wrong side of the result as Stand snatched victory from the final ball of the game.
A tough weekend overall, but plenty of character shown across the club and some encouraging performances from our younger players ππ
